Pug History
The Pug is one of the oldest dog breeds in all of history. Their history dates back to 700BC. These snubbed nosed dogs were seen in documentation and paintings that date back to this time period. The dogs were seen as little treasures and were carried around like royalty. Some of the royals during this time regarding the dogs as being just as important as a wife and were given special treatment. Anyone who disobeyed this rule shall be put to death.
The original name for the Pug was Lo-chiang-sze. During 1206-1333 AD the Pugs that were owned by the Emperor were paraded around for show and during this time it is thought to be believed that the Pug was then introduced to Europe. Around 1572 the King of Holland was at war with Spain and in the middle of the night one of his Pugs woke him up minutes before he was going to be attacked. This is why the Pug was seen as such an important animal. They were regarded as humans. The Pug continued to spread all throughout Europe and into America after the Civil War. Today Pugs are loved by many and are seen throughout history as being very special.
Pugs' Appearance
The Pug has a very compact little body. It is seen as being very stocky, thick and square. The coat is very soft with short hairs; colors include fawn, silver, and black. The muzzle is flat and pushed in. This feature to the nose is called snubbed nosed. The ears are normally rose shaped and the eyes seem to stick out and are very expressive and dark. The back is short and the tail stays in a tight curl. The legs are straight and strong.
Pug's Temperament
The Pug is known to be a very perky outgoing little breed. They have a lot of energy even though they are small in size. They are very affectionate and loyal to their owners. They are just plain happy and can be quite clever. They are a bit willful at times and tend to bore easily.
Pugs are intelligent so they are very easy to train, and will pick up on the training quite quickly. Pugs tend to make great watch dogs and are wonderful with both children and guests. They need a lot of attention so they must not be ignored. They have a tendency to become very jealous very quickly.
Pug's Role
The Pug can play the role of lovable friend and loyal family member. They are very happy and excitable and need tons of love. They are great with children and visitors and will not be aggressive. The Pug is a great option for anyone who has a lot of time to give and love to give!
